I love a great beauty routine and I LOVE trying out new tips and tricks that people recommend. However, there comes a point when you realize you cannot (and do not) need to do it all and really, who actually wants to do it all?! I know I have other hobbies and much more Netflix to watch thank you. So here are all the beauty tips and tricks that I don’t follow for whatever reason, but mostly because the advice just didn’t vibe with me…
Beauty Advice and Tips I Never Follow…
// 1 //
Have a glass of hot water and lemon first thing in the morning
I don’t drink hot water and lemon upon waking in the morning. I never have lemon in the house and I prefer tea instead, followed shortly by my morning latte…I can see the logic behind this tip and I am sure it is beneficial to one’s health but it’s not something I ever do myself.
// 2 //
Throw away expired products
I don’t throw out products when they ‘expire’. Firstly, do eyeshadows even expire?! I have never met a shadow that showed any signs of ‘funkiness’ nor have I had an eye infection since I was a kid. I use my products right up until the end unless it actually shows signs of being expired. If it’s still performing and in good nick, it stays!
// 3 //
Only use a wide-tooth comb when detangling wet hair
I hate combs. I’ll use one if I need to tease my hair but that’s it. I also use my large paddle brush to brush my wet hair like the beauty rebel that I am.
// 4 //
Don’t pick your skin
I can’t help it. I am addicted to squeezing my blackheads and using tweezers to remove dry, flaky skin. I do leave any angry breakouts alone, but will always attack any white heads that dare appear!
// 5 //
Heat Your Eyelash Curler
I did this once and damn near burnt my eyelid off. Never again.
// 6 //
Don’t pick your nail polish off
I consider it a win if I can remove all my nail polish without the need to resort to nail polish remover and I am addicted to the satisfaction I feel when the whole nail polish will peel off in one go. You know that feeling I’m talking about…
// 7 //
Get your hair trimmed every six to eight weeks
When I had long hair, it was lucky to see the inside of a salon every six months! Even with short hair I only ever make hair appointments once it becomes unbearable and unmanageable. I just don’t see the need to get my hair cut so frequently (personally), split ends be damned.
// 8 //
Use an eye cream
Nope. I’m sure sometime in the future I’ll get on board this bandwagon but for right now I just can’t be bothered. I had bad experiences in my early 20’s using eye creams which only irritated my eyes more than anything so I’m just not ready to dive back into it. Also, do they even work?! Comment below if you have can recommend a good eye cream that gives results!
// 9 //
File your nails in one direction
Who can be bothered?!
// 10 //
Use conditioner as shaving gel for your legs
I’m all for alternatives to shaving gel, but I never understood (or liked) using conditioner as a shaving gel, I have always preferred shampoo if I’m out of shaving gel (which is always).
So there you have it. I’m an absolute beauty rebel. What beauty ‘rules’ do you break and ‘tips’ that you just don’t have time for?
