This is the first post in a series ‘Style Around Me‘, where I pick out something from my wardrobe and create a multitude of new and different outfits with it. I am challenging myself to get creative, try new things and find new ways to wear these pieces with the ultimate goal to increase how versatile my wardrobe is. If you haven’t already, skip across to this post to find out more about this series and what it aims to do.
I’m starting this challenge with an easy piece and one of the most important basic pieces that I am sure everyone has in their collection – the Basic White Tee. I have the Bon Crew Tee and absolutely love this label. If you haven’t already, check out my Bon post here.
A plain white tee is crucial when striving for wardrobe versatility because it can be dressed both up and down and is always a comfortable and reliable solution when caught out with nothing to wear. It can be paired with almost anything and gives any outfit that effort free, chic and laid back vibe.
Because my white tee is so versatile and I have created so many looks with it in the past I am only including the new outfits that I have created for the purpose of this challenge. Here are just a few of new outfits that I have created for this challenge with the items in my wardrobe that I don’t often wear.
This beautiful skirt is new to my collection and something I picked up second hand for $10. By pairing it with a plain white tee, the instantly becomes a beautiful, casual daytime look and one that I cannot wait to wear to brunch in the future!
Pop of Color
These were my grandmother’s pants that I couldn’t part with even though for the longest time I didn’t know how to wear them. Then BOOM, I realised my white tee would be a great match! A white tee can make a piece you’re not used to wearing a little more comfortable, encouraging you to reach for it more often.
Summer Cocktail Hour
This is a skirt I have only ever worn to special events like weddings and my bridal shower because it comes paired with the most stunning matching top. But I have realised that I can get extra wear from it by pairing it with less dressy pieces – like this tee! The plain white tee is great for dressing down an outfit that would normally be dressed up. And likewise, a plain white tee can be dressed up.
Unsurprisingly the white tee is perfect for an off-duty look. Skinny jeans, loafers, red lip and you’re good to go. I haven’t pulled out this statement necklace in a while but I think I will start wearing it a bit more now when I want to add a bit of drama to my look.
I could pair my white tee with pretty much everything in my wardrobe but I thought I would try it out with a few new looks that I haven’t worn before. I challenge you to follow along with me in this series by pulling out your basic white tee, or a version thereof, and creating as many different outfits with it as possible.
Knowing all the different ways you can wear this item will increase all your styling opportunities and decrease that feeling that you never have anything to wear. Often a lot of our shopping impulses are brought on because we feel as though we lack that one item that will help tie everything together, when in fact, we are only adding another piece to our wardrobe puzzle and getting nowhere.
