Review: Stila HUGE Extreme Lash Mascara

Review: Stila HUGE Extreme Lash Mascara

I love big, bold, voluminous lashes. But then again, show me a gal who doesn’t. This Stila mascara is the latest to join The Chic Identity collection after the brand was recently added to Logical Harmony’s cruelty-free brand list.

Claims

Before we get into it, I feel it is always important to know how the company markets their products, so we can give a fair review on if they have delivered on their promises. Here is what Stila has to say about the HUGE Extreme Lash Mascara:

Introducing HUGE™ Extreme Lash Mascara… for the biggest, boldest, blackest black lashes ever! With just one coat, you instantly get major volume, length, curl, lift and intense black color.  Go as bold as you want! Even with multiple coats, this flexible, buildable formula leaves lashes soft with no clumps, flakes, or fall out. The curved brush mimics the eye shape so it’s easy to grab every lash. A custom blend of soft, flexible waxes build volume with no clumping.

Details

This mascara retails at Mecca for $33AUD for 13ml so it’s not cheap. It has an hourglass-shaped wand, which is slimmer than the Too Faced Better Than Sex wand and easier to use. The curved brush really does allow for the wand bristles to grab every lash easily. This mascara also has a very wet formula, possibly what allows it’s multiple applications without clumping.

My Eyelash Situation

I would describe my lashes as ‘average’. They aren’t beautifully long, but they aren’t short and stubby. Additionally, I don’t have very voluminous lashes but they aren’t sparse. I am the freaking Goldilocks of lashes apparently….

The Chic Opinion

This is currently my most favorite mascara, even over the Too Faced Better Than Sex.  It possibly has the wettest formula I have ever used however, it doesn’t bother me as it does dry. It means that you can layer the mascara easily without it becoming clumpy (just don’t sneeze because you might cause it to transfer). Once applied, even after one coat, it does provide an incredible amount of volume. The first few initial applications can be a bit intense as you do get a lot of product on the wand but after repeated use it becomes a little more user-friendly.

Not only does the formula add volume, but it adds some pretty impressive length as well. I love how dramatic and bold the lashes look after only 1 coat (but who am I kidding, I am a 3 coat girl). It is so easy to build up the layers without any clumping, and as long as you allow the mascara to dry slightly between applications, your lashes shouldn’t stick together. The length and volume it gives my lashes is insane. Sure it might transfer if it can touch your skin repeatedly, but I have experienced that with all my mascaras in the past so it doesn’t bother me.

It is long wearing but I did not find it smudge proof like it claims. Also, like a lot of mascaras I have tried in the past, this one really got good after a few uses, when the wand wasn’t so wet with product. I also didn’t find it difficult to remove (I usually remove eye make up with coconut oil on a cotton wool pad). The mascara isn’t flaky, but if you have hooded eyes or long bottom lashes, you may experience a bit of transfer onto your skin over the course of the day.

Like all beauty products, the Stila HUGE Extreme Lash Mascara has copped as many bad reviews as it has good. But I love it.
