Well, I am still on the liquid lipstick bandwagon since starting with the Australis Velourlips Matte Lip Cream (check out that review here). As an avid YouTube watcher and Instagram addict I was so keen to get my hands on some of the most raved about liquid lipsticks in the game – the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks. I ordered 3 shades to start with (mostly because I wanted free shipping…) and picked up:
Celebrity Skin – The nude shade of the bunch with the Kylie Jenner look to it.
Androgyny – Originally a limited edition release but was so coveted that it was brought back as a permanent shade. It is always selling out.
Unicorn Blood – The deep red shade that gets all up in my feels…
I have been putting these to the test for weeks now and here is what I know:
They all smell different and I don’t particularly like any of the scents and I can’t pick what it smells like. One smells a little like Sambuca…but it does fade as the formula dries.
They apply as a liquid, which surprised me because I was expecting a mousey formula.
You only need one layer as they apply very opaque.
They dry very quickly and because it’s only a thin liquid layer you apply, they wear very comfortably. I didn’t find them overly drying at all.
They are incredibly long lasting, but will require some touching up after eating.
The doe foot applicator is unique in that it curves a little, making it hug the lip better.
The shades dry darker on the lips than what they appear in the bottle.
Because of the liquid formulas, you can mix the shades to create something new and unique.
Use a lip pencil to line the lips for a cleaner line.
Ensure lips are exfoliated before use.
Easy to remove with an oil based makeup remover or any kitchen oil (I used coconut oil).
If you need to touch up throughout the day, try to clean up as much of the wear line as possible for a smooth application.
The more you layer the lipstick, the drier it will start to feel on the lips and the darker the shade will get.
Look at Instagram images of lip swatches of shades to get an idea of how they look on different skin tones.
Overall I think these liquid lipsticks are worth every penny because they are so comfortable to wear and come in a great variety of shades. If you’re wanting to try out some liquid lipsticks I would highly recommend trying a shade from Jeffree Star. Just keep in mind that the shades dry darker than how they appear in the bottle.
