I was soooooo excited when I saw this Hourglass palette release on Mecca. I had been umming and ahhing over whether or not to get their Dim Light powder for ages. The biggest hold back for me was the price, but when I saw that there was a palette with 6 of their Ambient Lighting shades for $117AUD I jumped at it (so did my sister). I was so excited to get this palette that I had to do a first impressions straight away. So let’s begin!

So in the palette you get the following powders: Dim Light, Iridescent Light and Diffused Light. The Iridescent Light Power is exclusive to this powder according to the girl at Mecca. Then you have 2 blush shades: Mood Exposure and Luminous Flush. Lastly, there is a bronzer shade: Luminous Bronze Light. (see below for swatches).

1 - Dim Light Powder; Iridescent Light Powder; Diffused Light Powder. Bottom (Left to Right): Mood Exposure Blush; Luminous Finish Blush; Luminous Bronze Light Bronzer
1 – Dim Light Powder; 2 – Iridescent Light Powder; 3 – Diffused Light Powder; 4 – Mood Exposure Blush; 5 – Luminous Finish Blush; 5 – Luminous Bronze Light Bronzer

This is the first time I’ve used any of these powders and I am really, really impressed. The palette is designed to give you everything that you need to highlight, bronze, brighten and powder your lovely face. According to Hourglass Cosmetics, these powders use Photoluminescent Technology to filter out harsh light and refine the appearance of the complexion. I would agree that this is the effect that you have on the skin. It is almost like your skin is lit by candlelight (the most flattering of all lights in my opinion).

I used all the different powders on my skin below. The first image is just me with my foundation base (created with Nars Sheer Glow foundation in the shade Medium2). The second image is with the powders.

These powders feel amazing. Just swatching them using my finger feels like I’m gliding on water made of velvet. The quality is certainly there. When using them on your face, I found them to be very buildable. They did not go on with a huge amount of pigment, which helps add to the effect of being lit with soft light – because you get to build to the perfect shade.

The sizes in the palette are obviously smaller than a full size, which means using a large brush is out of the question (only downside). However, it will still take a long time for you to hit pan in these and when you do, you can certainly go back and buy the full sized versions of your favorite shades.

Now let’s talk packaging. I think it’s stunning. You have a large mirror on the inside of the lid and the package itself is strong and feels and looks expensive. Exactly what you want when you drop 100 big ones down for some powders.

Overall this palette gives you a very flawless finish and I am in love. I want to cover my whole body in this ambient light 🙂

Remember – this is a limited edition palette, so if think you might want it, make up your mind quick because it won’t be around forever!
