Behind the Scenes: When Things Don't Go To Plan. This week I talk about the value hindsight is for learning and mull over when I will start valuing myself as a blogger. Also, catch up on the latest post where I interview the creator of Ethical Unicorn.

Behind the Scenes: When Things Don’t Go To Plan

Hello you gorgeous thing! Thank you so much for stopping by to catch up with me and chat all about what’s been going on behind the scenes of my posts (and lack there of!). This week I am cheating a little because I am writing this post on Friday night just gone – when you first read this it will be Sunday as per my usual behind the scenes schedule. I looked at my weekend ahead of me and realized that I would not get a chance to write this Sunday and for whatever reason, the motivation to start writing this is upon me (currently 10:20 pm Friday night).  I hardly know if any of that made sense, but who cares, that part is not important! Let’s crack on!

Hindsight is a bitch of a way to learn, but totally effective.

I missed a week of scheduled posting due to some late travel plans for work, which resultantly, threw my normal blogging routine through a loop. Looking back now I know that I could have made the time and effort to continue blogging on the side, but it would have required a few sacrifices that I was not willing to make. I was staying with my mum whilst I was traveling for work and wanted to spend as much time with her as possible instead of being preoccupied with writing.  Whilst I have absolutely no regrets about this decision because family is my #1 priority, looking back I have learned the importance of being prepared for the unexpected, not only for times when my schedule changes I cannot get a post up but what is my game plan if my site was to crash? What would I do if I updated my WordPress theme and suddenly lost everything? Planning for the unexpected is my new focus this week thanks to the benefits of hindsight…And what is hindsight if not a bitch?

Am I underestimating and undervaluing myself as an influencer/blogger?

A couple of days ago I read a real eye-opening post on EcoCult about ethical brands not expecting to pay bloggers for their time and reviews. Titled “Bless You, Pay Me: The 11 Non-Negotiable Reasons Why You Need To Pay Influencers For Coverage” it addressed the ethical brands who “don’t have a budget for influencers” or “only want to collaborate with bloggers who are passionate and genuine about sustainable fashion”  yet want us to do work for them for free.  It really got me thinking not only about the brands but myself as a blogger.  When will I decide that my time is valuable and my words have influence? If you’re a blogger, or even if you’re  not, I really recommend giving this post a read. It is so fantastically written and makes some very spot on points about paying influences for their time.

I talked with Francesca Willow from Ethical Unicorn!

I have been following the blog Ethical Unicorn for the last couple of years and always find creator and author, Francesca Willow’s posts to be original and informative. She addresses topics that otherwise would have never crossed your mind and approaches them with open-mindedness and without pushing her beliefs on to you. I always find great value in her posts and was so humbled when she shared some of her experiences with me. If you haven’t read the interview yet, you can find it here.

So that is this week in a nutshell, I hope you guys have had a fabulous one yourselves and I can’t wait to catch up with you next week! Remember to subscribe to The Chic Identity email list or follow me on Bloglovin’ and Instagram to know when new posts go live xxx

I would love to hear your comments, questions and feedback! xx
