There are people in the world who spring out of bed feeling more awake than you do after your first hit of caffeine. It’s certainly a feeling to aspire to, but you stay up too late and drink too much caffeine during the day so it’s unlikely to happen. The reality is the only time you are likely to ‘spring’ out of bed is when you sleep through you alarm and are running incredibly late for work. So, here are 3 tips to help you transition from zombie to a semi-functioning member of society on those days you want to crawl back into bed (*cough cough everyday cough cough*). Don’t worry, there is no exercise or green smoothie involved…
- Get to the sunlight:The first thing you should do when you get out of bed is find yourself some sunlight. Whether it’s beaming through a window in your home or you have to step outside, head it to. Get your face into the light, close your eyes and do a couple of little neck and arm stretches. You only need to do this for a couple of minutes but the effects of it will feel immediate. Warm sun on your face in the morning feels pretty awesome.
- Toss back a cool glass of water:If you’re a hot water and lemon person, you keep doing that cause that’s great, but most days I’m without lemon and too parched to wait for the kettle to boil. A glass of cool water in the morning will help to spritz up your body from the inside out and feels like a little cold shower for my brain (of course whilst you’re drinking the cold water your coffee machine is warming up in the background…).
- Put on some upbeat music or listen to something motivational: Some people are morning news people, but that’s a lot to take in when you’re trying to pep yourself up for the day ahead. Instead to listen to music or a motivational speaker like Les Brown. Not into motivational talks? Play a mix of your favorite songs. Listening to something you love helps to keep your brain from falling back into a slumber and has the added benefit of putting you in a better mood!
Give these 3 tips a go and see if they make any difference to your morning. They are certainly not the only things that can jumpstart your day, but they are time effective and super simple for everyday use.
